听力原文:W: Good morning, Mr.Tim.It's a long time since I had the pleasure of a visit for you.
M: Yes, it must be three or four years. I haven't visited you since I called about my will. You helped me with that, you remember?
W: Yes, I remember. Do you want to make any changes in your will?
M: I don't think that will be necessary, but you'll tell me if it is. I left everything, you remember, to my wife, and after her death, to my son Jerry. I've about $15,000 in shares of industrial companies. These bring in, after paying tax, about $1,125 a year. Well, I'm earning a good salary now, and I shall get a good pension from my employers, so my wife and I can live fairly comfortably with this extra income, I want to buy some land and build a house for my son; he will need a house when he gets married. I'm thinking of building one and giving it to him.
W: Your son's lucky. So you want my help buying the land and building the house.
M: Yes, that's right. As soon as you've done what's necessary for buying the land, Jerry and I will see an architect.
W: Have you found a plot yet?
M: Jerry was in Edinburgh last Saturday and saw a plot he likes. My wife and I went there two days ago, and we liked it, too. I'd like you to make the necessary inquiries for me.
W: I'd be pleased to do that. I shall have to write to the Local Authority and inquire whether it is allowed to build a house on your piece of land. You've not allowed to build a house without permission from the Planning Authority. And sometimes the Authority decides that a house must be built of stone, and not of brick, so that it doesn't spoil the surrounding village.
How long have they not met each other?
A.Half a year.
B.Two years.
C.Three or four years.
D.More than five years.

听力原文:W: I've been reading about a new snack food. It's made from fish. Have you heard anything about it?
M: No. I haven't, but 1 don't like fish very much anyway.
W: Not to worry. Although it's made primarily from fish, it actually doesn't have a fishy taste. In fact, it can be flavored with tomato, cheese, or chocolate for instance
M: How can it not taste fishy? Do you know how this snack food is made?
W: First the fish is minced and cooked and fermented. Then water and starch are added to make a dough.
M: It sounds awful.
W: Actually the dough is very bland al that point, so the flavorings are added to give it some taste.
M: Well, it still sounds a little strange. But I suppose this product will at least be low calorie and high protein. like a health food.
W: Yes, you could call it that. And it has a long shelf life, so it won't spoil quickly. It is also easy to digest and can ha made from types of fish that usually aren't eaten, or from high grade fish by-products,
M: Mm, have you got any samples? I might be willing to try the cheese-flavored variety.
W: No, none of it seems to be available yet. As I understand it, this fish snack food probably won't be in the stores for another couple of years. So you'll have a while to get used to the whole idea.
M: A couple of years, ah? It may just take me that long. but thanks for telling me about it.
Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the conversation to flavor the new product with?
A.Tomato.
B.Cheese.
C.Chocolate.
D.Fish.

听力原文: Israel is speeding up construction of its controversial West Bank barrier. The Palestinians say it's a land grab.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has ordered quicker work to complete construction of Israel's West Bank separation barrier, especially in the area of Jerusalem. Israel began building the nearly 700 kilometer long barrier two years ago, but only a third has been completed. Israeli officials say that's way too slow.
"Let's just get it done," said Cabinet Minister and former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."This is a security fence, it is not a political border, it is not meant to keep people in like the Berlin Wall, it is meant to keep terrorists out."
It is not clear how the government will speed up construction of the barrier in light of previous rulings by the Israeli Supreme Court. In the past, the Court has ruled that the government is illegally confiscating West Bank land and creating hardship for Palestinians.
Israeli analyst Dan Schueftan told VOA that many Israelis believe the court is favoring the Palestinians over Israeli security.
"And the more they take decisions in this direction, the more Israelis will question the wisdom of the Supreme Court."
So by ordering rapid construction of the barrier, Mr. Sharon is responding to public opinion. But the Palestinians say it's a land grab.
Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat: "The only thing that's growing on the ground now is more Israeli settlements, more walls, and more dictations and more harming of the Palestinian people."
The International Court of Justice in the Hague ruled last year that the barrier is illegal and must be torn down. But after more than a hundred suicide bombings during the past four-and-a-half years of conflict, Israel is determined to build the barrier as quickly as possible.
The Israeli Supreme Court has ruled that ______.
A.building West Bank barrier is legal
B.building West Bank barrier is illegal
C.building West Bank barrier is reasonable
D.building West Bank barrier is welcomed

听力原文: The key question for any only child is this: Why were you an only child? It's a key question for at least two reasons. If your parents had wanted several children, but could have you only, they are most likely to pour into you all the energy and attention that had been intended for several children. I call this the "Special Jewel" phenomenon. Only children, or special jewels often arrive when their parents are older-- usually in their thirties. These special jewels can become very spoiled and serf - centered. On the other hand, you may be an only child be cause your parents planned for only one and stuck to their plan. Your parents may give you a very strict and well-structured education to make you a little adult. Many only children grow up feeling unhappy because they always had to be such little adults.
(33)
A.Those who are themselves spoiled and self-centered.
B.Those who expected to have several children but could only have one.
C.Those who like to give expensive jewels to their children.
D.Those who give birth to their only children when they are below 30.

M: I sure would, but I don't know if I can. Next fall will be my last semester of coursework for my master's and I'll be very busy doing re search on my thesis. Could I have a few days to think about it?

W: I recently read that in ten years we'll be wearing clothes that change with the weather. So when it's cold, our clothes will warm up, and when it's hot, our clothes will cool off.
M: Oh, very funny! So we'll be wearing huge clothes with built-in air conditioners and heaters.
W: I'm being serious! Researchers have discovered a method of treating fibers with plastic crystals capable of storing and releasing heat as the temperature fluctuates. These treated fibers absorb more heat than untreated fibers. Researchers are still working with this, but soon this process will be widespread.
M: That's fascinating. I didn't know that fibers had the capability of storing heat. How does that work?
W: These fibers work with the heat by rearranging their structures. The treated fibers move back and forth between two solid shapes.
M: I don't understand. What kind of shapes do they change into?
W: When the weather gets warmer, the crystals take on cube shapes and absorb heat. When the weather gets cooler, the crystals become cooler and come back to their original structure.
M: That's truly unbelievable. You said that it'd be a decade before this type of clothes will be available, What a shame! I don't think I can wait that long.
