听力原文: A classical guitarist was thrilled to hear from New York City police that his valuable guitar had been found. (32) It disappeared almost a year ago when he got out of a taxicab and forgot to take the guitar with him.
Laurence Lennon, 44, said he was running late that day. He was talking to his manager on his cell phone when he dashed out of the cab. He said that he gave the driver $60 and told him to keep the change. He walked through the front doors of the concert hall still talking on the phone to his manager.
Upon discovering his loss, Lennon used his cell phone to call the police. (33) The policewoman asked him for the name of the cab company, the number of the cab, and the name of the driver. He said that she had to be kidding.
She told Lennon that he could file a missing items report at the police station or online. (34) She told him that finding the guitar might take a couple of years, as finding guitars was not as important as finding murderers and drug-takers.
Lennon considered that year depressing, as he had to postpone the recording of two new CDs. He has been using borrowed guitars, and he was losing hope of ever recovering his guitar.
Lennon was reunited with his $100,000 guitar yesterday. The case and the guitar had been discovered in the comer of a coffeehouse only two blocks from where Lennon had lost it in the first place. Lennon had offered a$ 10,000 reward for its return. (35)He said he would give the reward to the coffeehouse owner, who had found the guitar and notified the police. The police department prepared a news release about its success in tracking down the guitar.

听力原文:W: This is Frida and this is her husband Diego Rivera. She can't have fall en in love with him for his look. I reckon he must have been either very rich or very intelligent.
M: Actually, he was both highly intelligent and very rich. At first, Frida's father was against her marrying Diego because he was from an infamous family. But later on he agreed to it because he couldn't pay his daughter's medical expenses any more. Frida must have spent a fortune on doctors and operations over the years.
W: Oh, yes, what a terrible life first polio and then that awful accident. It's amazing she produced so many paintings, isn't it?
M: Yes, she must have been an incredibly brave woman.
W: But the marriage didn't work out too well, did it?
M: Well, it had its ups and downs.
W: She painted this one with the cropped hair while they were separated, didn't she?
M: Yes, that's right.
W. She really looked like a man here. In fact, she looked as if she's got a moustache! And why was she dressed in a man's suit? I thought it might have had something to do with women's liberation. You know she cut off her hair to symbolize equality or something.
M: Er, no the reason she cut off her hair and put on a man's suit is because Diego Rivera loved her long hair, and also loved the traditional women's Mexican dresses she used to wear. She did it to hurt him.

My Countrymen, she appeared to be an actress right out of one of those foreign intrigue films, very slender, with blonde hair, very expensively dressed. In this very thick Polish accent, I explained I couldn't drive out to the landing strip. The passenger terminal was the best I can do.

EKristy, 28, a cook in La Gross, often wondered what she’d do in a life-threatening situation. On August 29, 1997, she got her answer. While she was driving on a road a big truck hit its head on a pickup car. The pickup burst into flames. Hristy rushed out and ran to the pickup. Two farmers, Dean Bernhard, 51, and his brother Donald, 44, were inside. When she got close, Kristy could see the unconscious driver. The other man was under the passenger seat. Says Kristy: “The smells were sickening. I was afraid the truck would blow up and kill us all.”
The driver of the big truck was struggling to open the passenger door. so Kristy rushed to the driver’s side. Finally they opened the door. She reached in, seized the driver and, to her horror, felt her hands sink into his chest. She quickly dragged the man to safety on the roadside, then hurried back. As Kristy stared down the ditch (水沟) with the passenger, the pickup blew up. She jumped on top of him and they both rolled to safety.
When the police arrived a while later, Kristy started crying, “I want my mum.” In fact she cried for the net three months. Today, the two farmers, each the father of two children, are good friends with Kristry. To show their deep appreciation, they bought her a ring with nine diamonds-one for each member of their immediate families, and the ninth for her.

The best indication of whether a man or woman is capable of genuine friendship with a mate, social psychologists say, is whether he or she has close, nonsexual friends of the opposite sex. Also important, says Pittman, is whether that person is friends with his parents, since someone still at war with his parents is probably not ready for friendship with a romantic partner.
