Beginning in October, more than 13,000 McDonald's restaurants in America will use a new kind of cooking oil. McDonald's aims to make its French fries and other fried foods healthier.
The change will not affect the taste or the number of calories in the food. But by changing the cooking oil, McDonald's says, it hopes to cut by nearly half the amount of trans-fatty acids(转换脂肪酸) in French fries and reduce the amount of saturated fats(饱和脂肪) by 16 percent. Scientists believe that trans-fatty acids and saturated fats raise cholesterol(胆固醇) levels and increase the risk of heart disease.
McDonald's new step is important because McDonald's is an industry leader and other fast-food chains and food processors may follow the lead.
For McDonald's, the action comes at a time when Americans are becoming more and more concerned about; obesity(肥胖) is an increasing pressure on food companies to offer healthy food to consumers.
After three years of study, McDonald's officials say they are switching oil that is lower in saturated fats and trans-fatty acids. McDonald's says the change will not cause higher coats for consumers.
Though there is some change, scientists say that the amount of trans-fat in foods at McDonald's and at other fast-food companies is still important.
The main idea of the text is ______.
A.McDonald's is a pioneer in food products
B.McDonald's is enlarging its restaurants in the world
C.fried foods can't keep up with the development of moden society
D.McDonald's is to use new cooking oil

Before a new type of airplane goes into service, every part of it is tested again and again. But there are two tests that are more important than all the others.
The first is called the "tank test". A modem airplane must fly very high in the sky. Air must be pumped into the plane so that the passengers can breathe. The metal structure (结构) of the plane has to be very strong for this reason. When the plane is filled with air, the air presses against the skin of the plane inside. The pressure (压力) on a small window is like a huge foot that is trying to get out. If a small part of the plane were to fail, the plane would explode in the sky. To test the structure of the plane, the plane is lowered into a huge tank or container of water. Then it is filled with air. The pressure inside the plane is greater than it ever will be when it is high up in the air. Finally, there is an explosion. This does not cause so much damage inside the water tank as it would anywhere else. Engineers can discover which part of the plane has broken. Then that part is made stronger.
The most dangerous test happens when the new plane is going through test flights in the air. The test pilot must find out exactly what happens when the engines(发动机) are all shut off at once. The plane begins to fall like a stone. It is the pilot's job to find out how he can get control of the plane again. These two tests are examples of how planes are made safe before they ever carry passengers.
By doing the "tank test", the engineers can find out______.
A.the amount of air in the plane
B.the strength of the plane structure
C.the pressure inside and outside the plane
D.the power of the airplane engines

I shouldn't let it bother me. It really doesn't matter anyway. But it does bother me ! All those people are preparing to【21】a new century, a new millennium (千年) as well. And it just isn't【22】!
Most of us schedule our lives by the Gregorian【23】. Our years are measured from the【24】of Christ. The first year of the first century is 1, or 1 A.D. The last year of that century is the year 100. Simple? Yes! A century is 100【25】long. A millennium is 1,000 years long, which is【26】ten centuries.
Since the last year of the first century is the year 100, the first year of the【27】century is 101. Follow that pattern, century by century and you'll get my【28】. The year 2000 is the last year of the twentieth century. After all,【29】thousand means twenty hundreds. Twenty hundred years means twenty centuries. The year 2000 is the【30】, the final, the one that's still here, year of the twentieth century!!!!
I know, I'm getting too【31】. But it isn't fair, While most people will really be enjoying this coming【32】celebration, those of us in the know will be yawning. Everyone else will be【33】for the new millennium and we'll be saying, "It's not until next year."
I don't agree with the【34】, "Ignorance is bliss." But in this case, perhaps it's【35】.

The telecity is a city whose life, direction, and functioning are largely shaped by telecommunications. In the twenty first century, cities will be based more and more on an economy that is dependent on services and intellectual property. Telecommunications and information networks will define a city's architecture, shape, and character. Proximity in the telecity will be defined by the speed and bandwidth of networks as much as by geographical propinquity. In the age of the telecity, New York and Singapore may be closer than, say, New York and Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
Telecities will supersede megacities for several reasons, including the drive toward clean air, reducing pollution, energy conservation, more jobs based on services, and coping with the high cost of urban property. Now we must add the need to cope with terrorist threats in a high-technology world.
Western mind-sets were clearly jolted in the wake of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City and attacks in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and else where. But the risks posed by twentieth-century patterns of urbanization and architecture have ye to register fully with political figures and leaders of industry. The Pentagon, for example, has been rebuilt in situation rather than distributed to multiple locations and connected by secure landlines and broadband wireless systems. Likewise, the reconstruction of the World Trade Center complex still represents a massive concentration of humanity and infrastructure. This is a remarkably shortsighted and dangerous vision of the future.
The security risks, economic expenses, and environmental hazards of over-centralization are everywhere, and they do not stop with skyscrapers and large governmental structures. There are risks also at seaports and airports, in food and water supplies, at nuclear power plants and hydroelectric turbines at major dams, in transportation systems, and in information and communications systems.
This vulnerability applies not only to terrorist threats but also to human error, such as system-wide blackouts in North America in August 2003 and in Italy in September 2003, and natural disasters such as typhoons, hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. Leaders and planners are only slowly becoming aware that overcentralized facilities are the most vulnerable to attack or catastrophic destruction.
There is also growing awareness that new broadband electronic systems now allow governments and corporations to safeguard their key assets and people in new and innovative ways. So far, corporations have been quickest to adjust to these new realities, and some governments have begun to adjust as well.
Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A.The telecity is a TV manufacturing city.
B.The telecity is a city of the speed and bandwidth of networks.
C.Singapore is closer to New York than Arkadelphia, Arkansas is in telecity age.
D.Singapore is actually closer to New York than Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
