Beginning in October, more than 13,000 McDonald's restaurants in America will use a new kind of cooking oil. McDonald's aims to make its French fries and other fried foods healthier.
The change will not affect the taste or the number of calories in the food. But by changing the cooking oil, McDonald's says, it hopes to cut by nearly half the amount of trans-fatty acids(转换脂肪酸) in French fries and reduce the amount of saturated fats(饱和脂肪) by 16 percent. Scientists believe that trans-fatty acids and saturated fats raise cholesterol(胆固醇) levels and increase the risk of heart disease.
McDonald's new step is important because McDonald's is an industry leader and other fast-food chains and food processors may follow the lead.
For McDonald's, the action comes at a time when Americans are becoming more and more concerned about; obesity(肥胖) is an increasing pressure on food companies to offer healthy food to consumers.
After three years of study, McDonald's officials say they are switching oil that is lower in saturated fats and trans-fatty acids. McDonald's says the change will not cause higher coats for consumers.
Though there is some change, scientists say that the amount of trans-fat in foods at McDonald's and at other fast-food companies is still important.
The main idea of the text is ______.
A.McDonald's is a pioneer in food products
B.McDonald's is enlarging its restaurants in the world
C.fried foods can't keep up with the development of moden society
D.McDonald's is to use new cooking oil

A new kind of machine【21】to take the place of humans. These machines can do jobs that are too dangerous for humans.【22】, they are being developed to work in nuclear power centers, deep waters and outer space.
This is how the new machines work. A machine is placed in an area far away from the person who controls it. The person wears a special hard hat with tiny television screens. The screens【23】the person see and hear exactly what the machine is seeing and hearing. This gives the person the feeling of being in the same place【24】the machine. The person controls the machine. The machine follows the person's movements exactly. If the person raises his right arm, the machine raises the right arm, too. This means an【25】worker can do a dangerous job while【26】in a safe place. For example, a person can direct the machine【27】a bomb【28】gooing near the bomb himself.
The new machines are not exactly【29】robots. Robots are controlled by a computer. The new machines are controlled by a person. The new machines are called teleoperators. The nuclear power industry is especially interested in teleoperators. The machines could solve the problem of【30】radioactive materials.

Chair Co has developed a new type of luxury car seat. The estimated labour time for the first unit is 12 hours but a learning curve of 75% is expected to apply for the first eight units produced. The cost of labour is $15 per hour. The cost of materials and other variable overheads is expected to total $230 per unit.
Chair Co plans on pricing the seat by adding a 50% mark-up to the total variable cost per seat, with the labour cost being based on the incremental time taken to produce the 8th unit.
Required:
(a) Calculate the price which Chair Co expects to charge for the new seat. Note: The learning index for a 75% learning curve is –0·415. (5 marks)
(b) The first phase of production has now been completed for the new car seat. The first unit actually took 12·5 hours to make and the total time for the first eight units was 34·3 hours, at which point the learning effect came to an end. Chair Co are planning on adjusting the price to reflect the actual time it took to complete the 8th unit.
Required:
(i) Calculate the actual rate of learning and state whether this means that the labour force actually learnt more quickly or less quickly than expected. (3 marks)
(ii) Briefly explain whether the adjusted price charged by Chair Co will be higher or lower than the price you calculated in part (a) above. You are NOT required to calculate the adjusted price. (2 marks)

A friend of mine named Paul received an automobile from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it. “Is this your car, Mister?” he asked.
Paul nodded. “My brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was astounded. “You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn’t cost you nothing? Boy, I wish….” He hesitated. Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels.
“I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.”
Paul looked at the boy in astonishment, then impulsively he added, “Would you like to take a ride in my automobile?”
“Oh yes, I’d love that.”
After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes aglow, said, “Mister, would you mind driving in front of my house?”
Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the lad wante d. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile. But Paul was wrong again. “Will you stop where those two steps are?” the boy asked.
He ran up the steps. Then in a little while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled brother. He sat him down on the bottom step, then sort of squeezed up against him and pointed to the car.
“There she is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn’t cost him a cent. And some day I’m gonna give you one just like it…, then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the Christmas windows that I’ve been trying to tell you about.”
Paul got out and lifted the lad to the front seat of his car. The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began a memorable holiday ride. That Christmas Eve, Paul learned what Jesus meant when he had said: “It is more blessed to give….”
