<table><tbody><tr><td>Teaching English as a foreign language is very popular for many travellers. In March I started teaching English in Thailand.
I really love teaching. I knew it could be a lot of fun, especially with my students who are 3-5 years old. But I had no idea just how much I would actually enjoy it. The only reason I started was simple - it was an easy way to make money.
I had no idea Thai children could speak English so well at such a young age. My children could describe colours, shapes, body parts, days of the week and classroom objects!
Two things changed after working. The first one was in the first weeks of teaching, I liked to have my lessons planned out, but things didn't go as expected. Now I am happy to walk into a classroom with whatever I need for the subject.
I guess the other thing would be how much the children trust me. 18 weeks ago these children were<u>unconfident</u>and pretty shy, but now they can't wait to get involved.
In 6 months I have no idea where I will be, but right now I love teaching and enjoy working with the kids every day. Will I teach again - I'd like to think so!

Many people with ordinary jobs may dream of long holidays in foreign countries, but they know they couldn’t afford them even if they could get enough time off from the company. However, there are a few businesses which have started schemes to reward employees with long service by giving them a chance to fulfill such ambitions by providing both the time and the money.
One company gives every employee over 50 years old and who has been with them for 25 years, six months’ holiday on full pay.At the same time additional money can be made available by way of loans, to help them with projects they cannot otherwise offer. Most of the people who have already benefited from the scheme, have used the opportunity to travel to distant places like the Far East or South America and some have spent the money on their favorite hobbies, such as photography.
The cost of providing these special holidays is fairly high but the directors feel it is well worthwhile because the employees are greatly refreshed by their long break from the pressures and routines of their jobs. The only problems are that the people concerned tend to have key jobs which can be difficult to fill on a temporary basis for a relatively long time.Besides, some employees find it difficult to re-adjust to the old routine after such a long time away.In addition, one or two people may not feel secure at leaving their job in someone else’s hands. On balance, however, there is no doubt that the idea is beneficial to industrial relations and a wonderful reward for long service.

Have you ever noticed advertisements which say “Learn a foreign language in six weeks, or your money back! From the first day your pronunciation will be excellent.Just send...” and so on? Of course, it never happens quite like that. The only language that is easy to learn is the mother tongue.Think how much practice that gets! Before the Second World War people usually learnt a foreign language in order to read the literature of the country. Now speaking a foreign language is what most people want.Every year many millions of people start learning one.
Some people try at home, with books and records or tapes; some use radio or television programmes; others go to evening classes. If they use the language only twice or three times a week, learning it will take a long time.A few people try to learn a language fast by studying for six or more hours a day.It is clearly easier to learn the language in the country
where it is spoken. However, most people cannot afford this, and for many it is not necessary. They need the language in order to do their work better. For example, scientists and doctors chiefly need to be able to read books and reports in the foreign language.Whether the language is learnt quickly or slowly, it is hard work.Machines and good books will help, but they cannot do the student's work for him.
