And on New Year's day people eat osechi ryori, which is very special and delicious. I like New Year very much.
W: If I want to skiing, where should I go？
M: I think Nagano(长野) is the best place to ski in Japan. The reason is because the Winter Olympics were held in Nagano in 1998. The snow there is very soft and beautiful.
W: What kind of food do you like besides Japanese food？ Like American food, Chinese food？
M: Recently, young Japanese people eat with their friends at fast food restaurants like McDonalds or Yoshinoya. There are not many university students eating meals at home. I think that I am the same as those students. Also, Japanese like Italian, Chinese, and Korean food. But I like Japanese food the best because foreign food is too strong for me.
W: What do you think about Junlehiro Koizumi？ Is he handsome or look old？
M: I think Prime Minister Koizumi is a progressive person rather than a traditional one. He is active and has made good diplomacy, but his idea of tax increase is not good. I think capitalism is going to do big damage to poor people. Koizmni's capitalism is just like that of President George Bush. Is Koizumi handsome？ Well, I think he looks not all that bad.

听力原文：Los Angeles today is the second largest city in America, sprawling over 464 square miles along the southern California coast. It is the center of the entertainment industry, end it has a balmy climate of mostly sunny days.
But there was a time when Les Angeles was nothing more than a tiny Indian village. The Spanish expedition searching for Monterey Bay camped there the night of August 1,1769. We're joined by an executive from Effnet: Tomas Althen. Welcome to the program. We're delighted to have you. Tomas, let's start with this. What sort of Internet issue is Effnet dealing with？ What kind of solutions do you bring to the table？
Tomas Althen, CEO, Effnet Group: The Internet is growing at a very rapid speed at the moment. As you must know, the number of users doubles every year. However, also the information on the net doubles every month. And this calls up the two issues we have been hearing about here, speed and security.
Host: Well, let's look at more details. Look at this video about the city council of Stockholm, Sweden.
Narrator on the video: Here is the power. The politicians and high civil servants at Stockholm County Council are used to having access to qualified information. Now with everyone using Internet and Intranet, some information has to remain secret. The decision on how to do this are mad here at IT Control. They have found the way to let 10, 000 employees use the Internet but some information can still be accessed only by qualified people.
This is the firewall keeping the information system secure. A box in the basement with software from Effnet. Scandinavia is known for its technology. Cellular phones and Internet are part of daily life. And here in Sweden there are some young, very innovative up-starting companies. One is Effnet, founded in 1997 and already on the world market.
As the world demands speed and security and reliability, Effnet's gigabit router on a card makes security easier. The generic plug-in card, firewaller and router in one, proves that they are ready to meet the world demand.
Host: Well, how does the firewall work？ We were told a few days ago that one of the new methods of transmission was to break everything up into little packets, send them all into the Internet and hope they arrive in the same order, and so on. Is the protection of these packets from being raided is this the principle task of the firewall？
Tomas Althen: You can say that in one sense. You also don't want packets to come in to your data system, or into your network, packets which you don't want to be there. You want to be able to decide for yourself as an organization or as a company: hey, I don't want these guys to be able to access my treasure. And to do that you need to do some filtering. You need to decide which packets are allowed, which packets are not allowed. You have to do that very fast so you don't end up with yet another bottleneck. And we solved that problem.
Host: Let's look ahead a couple of years and have you estimate for us how you see this technology evolving. What do you think will be different or new on the horizon in a couple of years？ Tomas？
Tomas Althen: More and more has been put into smaller and smaller spaces. We are making quite a leap in putting all these features on one card. But the next step is clearly putting them on one chip. And we are talking to chip vendors to try to do that as quickly as reasonable.

Lack of sleep causes many problems, not the least of which is the difficulty it adds to learning. It's also detrimental to the immune system and motor skills. Students (and everyone else) need at least eight hours of sleep to maintain optimum health and learning capabilities. In Germany in particular the scale of the defeat for the governing Social Democrats was pretty staggering. While the number of people from Poland and Slovakia was a source of deep disappointment for officials in Brussels. Euro-sceptic parties gained ground in Britain, Sweden, the Czech Republic and elsewhere.
But overall, the new parliament will not be too dissimilar from the old. Most MEPs will be pro-European, with the center-right parties forming the biggest group, followed by the socialists.

B: It’s quite difficult to make a kind of hierarchy of worry here, because so many issues are there, and so … and they’re all very very important. But I think it has to be said that as far as we we’re concerned, as a campaigning organization, it really is the rain forest that we are concentrating on most. If we don’t take action on that issue within the next five years, then environmental pressure groups won’t have anything to do in ten years’ time, because there won’t be any rain forests, really, for them to campaign about. So this is a critical period for the rain forests, the next five years, and there is enough flexibility in the system to allow us to hope that we’re going to be able to make some changes during that time. So that’s why we’ve made it our priority.
A: What’s so important about the rain forests, then？ Er, what’s, what’s the difference between having them or not having them？ Isn’t it just, you know, basically either there’re a lot of trees there or there aren’t a lot of trees there？
B: Uhh…well that’s what some people would like to think. Um, there, it’s important in many different ways, important firstly for the countries themselves, in terms of the fact that millions of people depend on the rain forests for their livelihood, and for their … the quality of their environment, through the protection of watersheds, and so on. Secondly, they’re important because of the biological richness of the rain forests. Um, a genetic chest … treasure chest is how they’ve been described. Um, more than 60% of the world’s species is to be found in the rain forests. Write that off, and you write off that genetic storehouse. Lastly, they’re important at international level because of the impact on climate patterns that one would find if the rain forests were destroyed. So, whether you’re looking closely at the tribal people who depend on them, the countries which depend on them, the international community which depends on them, indeed the, the, you know, the creatures themselves, um, it’s actually the most critical issue that we face. And our prime job is of course to try and get people to understand how it is, even in countries where there are no rain forests, that they still have a connection with that rain forest.
